Individual pebbles in cobalt blue, turquoise, sea green and deep navy are scattered across an unexpected pale pink ground. Their irregular outlines and hand-drawn markings retain something of the original sketches and paintings, while the change of scale and vivid colour take them far away from a literal representation of the beach.
A broad navy border covered with oversized cream spots frames the composition, deliberately contrasting the organic shapes and textures of the stones with a strong graphic pattern. A narrow dark pink hand-rolled edge provides the final flash of colour.
Printed on lightweight pure silk chiffon, the composition changes completely when folded and tied: large pebbles become abstract fragments and the spotted border cuts through the colours in unexpected places.
