Stourhead Pure Silk Scarf – Abstract Tree Art – Blue Burgundy Wearable Art

A richly layered pure silk scarf developed from my original drawing of a fallen tree at Stourhead in Wiltshire.

The extraordinary shapes of the fallen tree provided the starting point, but the original drawing has been deliberately fragmented and partially obscured with repeating motifs, painterly colour and bold graphic dots. Natural form and textile pattern overlap until the tree begins to dissolve into abstraction.

Deep indigo and brilliant blue flow through the image alongside rich burgundy and creamy white, while small decorative motifs appear and disappear across the surface. Look closely and traces of the tree reveal themselves amongst the layers; from a distance, the design becomes an almost abstract landscape of colour, pattern and movement.

At 90cm square, the large-scale composition is particularly effective when worn. Folding the silk breaks the original image apart again, creating unexpected combinations of sweeping line, intricate pattern and bold polka dots.

Printed and made in England and finished with a hand-rolled hem.
